Appraisals

When it comes to fine art, there are many reasons you might choose to engage a credentialed, specialist appraiser for yourself or on behalf of a client. Among the most common: acquiring or updating insurance, filing a damage or loss claim, and the division of marital property. Other events that often require an appraisal: Internal Revenue Service filings related to making a charitable contribution or substantial gift of artwork, fulfilling the requirements of probate, or settling an estate. In each case, a carefully researched appraisal report from a qualified appraiser is well worth the time and investment.

I am an accredited, independent, Seattle-based appraiser with the credentials, education, and experience to produce reports that are accurate, reader-friendly, and tailored to the specific requirements of the assignment.

My area of specialization is modern and contemporary American and European art, from the mid-nineteenth century to the present, including painting, sculpture, prints and multiples, studio craft and glass, and photography. I am particularly interested in the work of twentieth-century Pacific Northwest artists and in African American artists.

My accreditation is through the International Society of Appraisers and my appraisal reports are prepared in conformity with the International Society of Appraisers’ Appraisal Report Writing Standards and Code of Ethics, as well as The Appraisal Foundation’s Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).

My roster of satisfied clients range from individuals with little knowledge of the art world to experienced collectors, corporate collections, museums, foundations, and Fortune 500 companies. Each assignment provides its own satisfactions and challenges but all require the education, experience and attention to detail that I bring to each project.
